2017 Top Ten Wish List

The 2017 tennis season is just around the corner and we can’t wait to see what it has in store for tennis fans.

No one predicted that Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber would end 2016 as No. 1, respectively, but they did. Will there be similar surprises in 2017? Who knows, but we do have a wish list.

10. World No. 1 Angelique Kerber had a great 2016 season where she ascended to the top of the WTA rankings. She won the Australian and the U.S. Open, and was a finalist at the Wimbledon Championships. Let us hope she is able to defend most of these points and maintain her No. 1 status, which is a huge undertaking.

9. Like Kerber, Andy Murray had an incredible 2016 season, winning his third Grand Slam in Wimbledon, and his second Olympic Gold in Rio. He replaced Novak Djokovic as the top ranked ATP Player. We do hope that he doesn’t have a letdown and is able to maintain his excellent form throughout 2017.

8. Victoria Azarenka, who’s been plagued by injuries throughout her career, made a 2017 comeback, winning Indian Wells-Miami double, which is a tough task. It would be great if she returns early from her maternity leave and is be able to stay healthy.

7.  No one expected Dominika Cibulkova to win the 2016 WTA Finals, but she did. At 5’3″ tall, she proved that height doesn’t matter. We would like to see her win her first major in 2017.

6. Gael Monfils made his debut at ATP Finals in 2016. Fingers crossed he brings his 2016 inspired play to 2017 and wins his first Grand Slam.

5. Novak Djokivic finally won the elusive French Open in 2016, completing the Career Grand Slam. Due to the letdown and other factors, the former No. 1 only won one big title after his French Open win. We are asking the tennis gods to help him recalibrate during his off-season in order to regain his form.

4. After winning 2016 French Open, her maiden Grand Slam, Garbine Muguruza‘s rest of the 2016 season was not memorable. We are hopeful that she will win her second Grand Slam in 2017.

3. Roger Federer the Great is still playing great tennis at the age of 35. We would like to see the 17-time Grand Slam titlist, who has not won a Grand Slam since 2012, stand healthy and to win another Grand Slam to cap his amazing career.

2. Rafa Nadal had a rough 2016 season, and was forced to end his season early due to injuries. The 14-time Grand Slam winner has not won a Grand Slam since the 2014 French Open. We’ll be happy to see the King of Clay win another French Open in 2017.

1. Ever since she won her 21st Grand Slam in Wimbledon in the summer of 2015, there has been talk about Serena Williams breaking Steffi Graf’s record of 22 Grand Slams. Her journey hasn’t been easy since then but now that she’s tied with Graf, fingers crossed she wins her 23rd Major title in 2017.
