On August 18, 2008 the ATP World Tour received a new leader in its classification: Rafa Nadal became the third Spaniard in history to rise to the highest peak by becoming number one in the world. After achieving this, Nadal, who after losing the number one position, has been one of four players to recover the ranking years later. For this reason, and on the eve of such an important anniversary, the players of the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar have given Rafa Nadal the 1×10 trophy to congratulate him for the 10 years he has remained in the top ranking of world tennis.
Jaume Munar (current number 91 in the world), has been responsible for leading this initiative and has delivered the award to Rafa: “Hello Rafa, it’s been 10 years since you became number one and for this reason, I want to give you this trophy on behalf of all the players at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar. Congratulations Rafa!”.
Thankful for the gestures of affection received by the students of the Academy, Nadal wanted to share his gratitude. “I want to thank the Academy for this gift. It’s been 10 years since I became number one in Cincinnati and I appreciate this trophy from you, so thank you very much. Keep working hard!”, said the Spaniard from Manacor.
Visitors can admire the glass trophy at the Rafa Nadal Museum Experience that sits on a wooden base where the names of the number one tennis players are engraved. A trophy that Rafa Nadal received ten years ago and has special meaning on this anniversary. For this reason, the players of the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar have given him a “1” made out of glass, as a sign of gratitude for his legacy, his example and the values he transmits in and out of the tennis court. Values that are the cornerstone of the training players receive on a daily basis at the Academy.
