Thompson was initially eliminated in the final round of qualifying for the Wimbledon tune-up tournament, beaten by Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in three sets.
But with the withdrawal of Murray’s slated first round opponent Aljaz Bedene, due to a wrist injury, world No.90 Thompson got a reprieve as a lucky loser.
Organisers made the announcement at the start of play on day two of the event in west London.
The pair will play later on Tuesday.
