There are star-studded teams competing in the Wimbledon mixed doubles draw, including Jamie Murray/Venus Williams and Coco Gauff/Jack Sock.
Williams, one of the sport’s all-time greats, did not compete in singles at this edition of The Championships, but she is set to partner Murray for the first time. Venus is a five-time Wimbledon singles champion and a six-time titlist at the event in women’s doubles. Murray is a two-time winner at SW19 in mixed doubles.
Murray and Williams received a wild card. They will play Alicja Rosolska and Michael Venus in the first round.
The pair of Gauff and Sock might have come to fruition through social media. Two weeks ago, Gauff tweeted, “Who wants to play mixed at Wimby?” Sock responded, “We’d be a decent team.” The Americans will open against British wild cards Kyle Edmund and Olivia Nicholls. Edmund has not competed since October 2020 in Vienna due to a knee injury.
