Rafael Nadal reached the semi-finals of the Rolex Paris Masters for the first time since 2013.

"It was a tough first set where I had to play at a very high level," Nadal said after beating Tsonga for the 10th time in 14 meetings.

The Spaniard could clinch the year-end No. 1 ATP Ranking on Saturday if he defeats Next Gen ATP Canadian Denis Shapovalov to reach Paris final and Novak Djokovic falls to Grigor Dimitrov in the other semi-final. Nadal controls his own destiny in the battle for year-end No. 1, as he can seal the achievement by lifting his first Bercy trophy on Sunday. 

Nadal and Shapovalov have split two previous FedEx ATP Head2Head meetings, and this is the third time they will meet in a Masters 1000 event. Shapovalov defeated Nadal during his magical run in Montreal two years ago, before the Spaniard got his revenge last year in Rome. (via ATP)
