Rafael Nadal works with residents to clear the mud from their houses after flooding in Sant Llorenc, 60 kilometers (40 miles) east of Mallorca's capital, Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Torrential rainstorms that caused flash flooding of water and mud on the Spanish island of Mallorca killed at least nine people, authorities said on Wednesday.
Following the news that the Balearic born tennis star Rafael Nadal opened the doors of his tennis academy to people affected after storms and torrential rain battered the island on Monday, the 32-year-old tennis player was also anxious to do his bit in the clean up operation in the badly hit municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.
Dressed in wellington boots and a tracksuit, the tennis player worked alongside other volunteers in removing water from a flooded workshop in Sant Llorenç alongside his fitness trainer Rafael Maymó and other members of staff from the Rafa Nadal sports center which is located in Manacor, some 15km from Sant Llorenç.
Photos of the current ATP Number 1 were taken by by local journalists Jordi Jiménez, and Jordi Cotrina who captured the tennis star assisting in the clean up operation and consoling locals affected after the island was badly hit by flash flooding.
