Seventeen time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal will line-up alongside Milos Raonic, Grigor Dimitrov and Nick Kyrgios in January with the NSW Government securing FAST4 Tennis for the Harbour City. The fifth installment of FAST4 Tennis will take place on Monday, 7 January 2019 at Qudos Bank Arena.
"I’m really looking forward to playing in Sydney again in January," Nadal said. "There was an amazing turnout for the FAST4 Showdown last time I played, and the fans loved the tennis and really got involved with the matches. "It’s been a couple of years since I’ve played in Sydney, so I’m looking forward to going back there, playing for the fans."
"I didn't think the level was going to be that high," Kyrgios said after charging to an impressive four set win over Nadal at the 2017 FAST4 Showdown. "But I don't think Rafa knows any other way than to go out there and give 100 per cent. We weren't taking it easy at all."
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said Sydney’s week of tennis is a highlight of the Summer sporting calendar.
“Over the past four years the FAST4 Tennis event has complemented the Sydney International to create a blockbuster week of tennis in the Harbour City,” Mr Marshall said. “Rafael Nadal is one of the greatest players in tennis history and for him to be returning to Sydney to play FAST4 Tennis for a third time shows just how much he enjoys playing in our State. “Tennis is a massive part of the Australian Summer and the Sydney International and FAST4 Tennis events have become firm favourites with tourists. We expect more than 5,500 overnight visitors to travel to Sydney for the tennis, injecting approximately $3.7 million into the NSW economy.”
