Rain delays Sunday play in Shanghai, Sinner in action under roof

Play at the Rolex Shanghai Masters has been suspended for a second successive day due to rain. There is currently no play to begin on the outside courts until at least 5 p.m. local time (CST) at the ATP Masters 1000 event.

With a retractable roof on Stadium Court, Daniil Medvedev and Matteo Arnaldi’s third-round clash was able to go ahead, with the World No. 5 prevailing in three sets. Jannik Sinner is currently in action against Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry as he aims to stay on track in his bid for a seventh tour-level title of the season.

Sinner vs. Etcheverry will be followed by Carlos Alcaraz's battle against home hope Wu Yibing for a place in the fourth round. Eleventh seed Tommy Paul will then conclude Sunday’s play on Stadium Court when he takes on Alejandro Tabilo in a bid to extend his 1-0 lead in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series.

Four singles matches have been cancelled for Sunday as a result of the inclement weather, including Stefanos Tsitsipas' meeting with Alexandre Muller and Ben Shelton's clash against Roberto Carballes Baena. All doubles matches have been rescheduled for tomorrow.

Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune are among the singles stars waiting to get underway on the outside courts once the rain has stopped.
