Djokovic and Federer Eases Into Third Round at Wimbledon

Timeline Photos

Day 1 of Wimbledon 2017 is over and four seeds have already lost the biggest upset being Wawrinka who lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to Medvedev, the player who lost to Djokovic in the Eastbourne semis.

I was quite impressed with Medvedev in Eastbourne and looking at the draw I thought he could make life difficult for Stan. But apparently, Stan is struggling with a knee injury so who knows how much that affected him. Either way, it is a big win for Medvedev who hits the ball flat and hard so his game is suited to grass.

The second highest seed who lost is 20th seed Kyrgios who withdrew with an injury again after going 6-3, 6-4 down to Herbert.

21st seed Karlovic also lost 8-6 in the 5th to Bedene after splitting the first four sets in tiebreaks.

Finally, 31st seed Verdasco lost to my countryman Anderson in four sets. That's a nice win for Anderson after struggling with injuries for some time and whose draw is quite good now with Wawrinka having lost.
