Australian Daria Gavrilova is into the second round of the Rogers Cup after beating Spain’s Lara Arruabarrena in straight sets in Canada.
Gavrilova, ranked 25th in the world, beat Arruabarrena 6-3 6-3 in the first round of the WTA event in Toronto on Monday.
The 23-year-old Gavrilova didn’t face a break point in closing out the match in 71 minutes.

Injury-plagued Nick Kyrgios has tasted victory for the first time since May, beating Viktor Troicki 6-1 6-2 at the Coupe Rogers in Montreal.
The match was the first the world No.24 has completed in his past three encounters after injury struggles – first a hip problem, then a shoulder injury – forced him to retire from Queen’s Club, Wimbledon and last week’s Citi Open in Washington.
Kyrgios looked fresh and focused, seeing off Troicki in 51 minutes, but warned he was rolling the dice with the injury, which he admits could flare up any time.

Late entrants into the event, John Peers and Henri Kontinen walked away from the Citi Open in Washington DC as winners.
The Australian-Finnish combo, the top seeds at the ATP 500 event, beat No.2 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo 7-6(5) 6-4 in Sunday’s final.
It was their second title of 2017, after their Australian Open triumph in January.

Ash Barty and Daria Gavrilova are in the main draw at the Rogers Cup in Toronto, a WTA Premier 5 event featuring 16 of the world’s top 17.
Barty beat Katherine Sebov and Madison Brengle in qualifying to reach the main draw, where she will face Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin.
