Tomic, Wallace continue good form with title wins
Melbourne VIC, Australia, 14 August 2017 | Bede Briscomb
Promising Australians Sara Tomic and Isabelle Wallace have claimed titles in Thailand and Belgium respectively at the weekend.
Tomic took out her third career pro title in brutally humid conditions in Nonthaburi, defeating China’s Yue Yuan 6-4 4-6 6-1. It followed an impressive semifinal victory over former world No. 20 Alisa Kleybanova.
“I’m feeling great that I managed to win the tournament,” Tomic told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
“It has been very hot here so been making sure I drink lots of water and eat enough for the hot days. [I’m] excited for another week, looking forward to more matches.”
Tomic has continued to roll right along with a first-round victory in a subsequent Thailand tournament overnight at the Nonthaburi Pro Circuit event.
Also making noise is Victorian Isabelle Wallace, who went into the Flanders Ladies Trophy Koksijde unseeded yet claimed victory over fifth seed Bibiane Schoofs 4-6 6-4 6-3 in the final.
Unsettled in the first set, Wallace took control behind a steady first serve en route to a hard-fought 2 hour 23 minute victory.
